Pitch location by pitch type analysis

<p dir="ltr">This is a data visualization project based on MLB data submitted for the 2022-24 Data Bloom Data Viz contest at River Campus Libraries.</p><p dir="ltr">Data source: <a href="https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search</a></p><p dir="ltr">Filter criteria: Season: 2023 Regular and Postseason Pitch type: Fastball, Curveball, Slider, Changeup, Knuckleball Result Type: Single, Double, Triple, Homerun, Strikeout (ran query multiple times due to result limit and aggregated in excel).</p><p dir="ltr">The visualization depicts the distribution of hits and strikeouts within the strike zone, revealing that hits are concentrated within the strike zone, while strikeouts often occur outside. It also highlights clustering patterns of different pitch types and demonstrates the impact of pitch movement on their distribution.</p><p dir="ltr">This visualization was awarded the Best Undergraduate Visualization prize.</p>
